Convidado para crítico na Southern Califórnia Institute of Architecture Los Angeles (SCI-ARC), (1997); Columbia University, Nova Iorque (1998); Faculdade de Arquitectura de Lisboa, Instituto Superior Técnico, Universidade de Granada (2003/2004). Visiting Professor na Universidade de Minnesota - College of Architecture and Landscape Architecture Minneapolis, E.U.A., (1999/2000).

Foi premiado em concursos nacionais e internacionais tendo obtido uma menção honrosa no Concurso Internacional para a Revitalização do ULUGH-BEG CENTER em Samarkanda - ex-URSS E O 1º Prémio no Concurso Internacional para o Plano de Urbanização de Almada Nascente com WS Atkins e Richard Rogers Partnership.

Participou em seminários e deu conferências nos E.U.A, Espanha, França, Hong-Kong, Itália e Portugal. Participou em exposições na Alemanha, Bélgica, Brasil, Canadá, Chile, Dinamarca, Escócia, E.U.A., Espanha, Finlândia, França, Holanda, Hong-Kong, Inglaterra, Itália e Portugal.

Foi co-comissário de uma exposição de desenhos de arquitectura na Sociedade Portuguesa de Autores em Lisboa (2001) e produziu e organizou as exposições itinerantes do Atelier Santa-Rita Arquitectos "Objectos + Arquitecturas" - Milão 1999; Lisboa/Coimbra 2000 e "Paysages Strategiques" - Paris 2001; Lisboa 2003 e “La Poética de La Fragmentazione” – Milão 2006.

Tem trabalhos publicados na Alemanha, Argentina, Chile, Espanha, Inglaterra, Itália, Holanda, Japão, e Portugal e deu entrevistas para diversas revistas de Arquitectura e Design.

No ano de 1999 foi editada pela Estar - Lisboa uma monografia sobre o seu trabalho e em 1991 e 2001 foram editados dois catálogos (Estar e Instituto Camões, Paris) acerca do trabalho do Atelier Santa-Rita Arquitectos.

João Santa-Rita attended the summer course at the Architecture University of Darmstadt (Federal Republic of Germany) in 1982. He received his architecture degree from the Lisbon School of Fine Arts in 1983.

From 1976 to 1986, he worked in the Architecture studio of José Santa-Rita. From 1986 to 1988, he worked in Macau with architect Manuel Vicente. In 1990, he formed a partnership with architect José Santa-Rita to create the firm Santa-Rita Architects.

João Santa-Rita was invited to become a member of the Akademie Fur Bauktur (Germany).

He was Assistant Professor of Project at the Lisbon School of Fine Arts (ESBAL) in 1984/85 and at the Universidade Lusíada in 1991/92. Since 1996, he has been Assistant Professor at the Universidade Autónoma of Lisbon. Since 2004, he has been Guest Professor of Project at the Universidade Moderna of Lisbon.

In 1997, João Santa-Rita participated in the academic critique team at the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-ARC) in Los Angeles. In 1998, he participated in the academic critique team at Columbia University in New York. He participated in debates and critique sessions at the University of Granada, the Lisbon School of Architecture, the Lisbon Technical Institute, and the Universidade Autónoma. In 1990/2000, he was Visiting Professor in the College of Architecture and Landscape Architecture at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.

In 2003 and 2005, he participated in the 3rd International Architecture Seminar at Universidade Autónoma of Lisbon and in the International Architecture Seminar in Wurburg, Germany, respectively.

João Santa-Rita was guest Professor in the Theater Architecture seminar at the College of Theater and Cinema and participated as guest professor in seminars at the Lisbon School of Fine Arts and Universidade Autónoma. From 1998 to 2003, he was a member of the Fine Arts Committee of the Portuguese Authors Society.

He has written many articles and has participated as guest editor for a variety of magazines. He is a member of the Administrative Council of the magazine Architecti e Arquitectura Ibérica. He participated in seminars and conferences in Poland, Germany, the United States, Spain, France, Hong Kong, Italy, and Portugal. He participated in exhibitions in Germany, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Denmark, Scotland, the United States, Spain, Finland, the Netherlands, Hong Kong, England, Italy, and Portugal.

João Santa-Rita’s works are published in Germany, Argentina, Chile, Spain, the Netherlands, England, Italy, Japan, and Portugal. He has given numerous interviews for architecture and design publications. He has received many awards in national and International competitions which include an Honorable Mention in the International Competition for the Revitalization of ULUGH-BEG CENTER in Samarkanda, in the former USSR, and 1st Place in the International competition for the Urbanization Plan for East Almada. He has works in the United States, Macau, and Portugal.

João Santa-Rita was co-director of an exhibit of drawings at the Portuguese Authors Society in 2001. He produced and organized two traveling exhibitions of works by Santa-Rita Architects titled “Objectos e Arquitecturas”( Objects and Architectural Works), which was displayed in Milan in 1999, and “Paysages Strategiques” (Strategic Landscapes), which was displayed in Paris in 2001 and at the Belém Cultural Center in Lisbon in 2003.

In 1999, Estar-Lisboa published a monography of João Santa-Rita’s works from 1991 to 2001. In 1991 and 2001, catalogs of the work of Santa-Rita Architects were published by Estar, Lisbon, and the Instituto Camões, Paris.
